ASSEMBLYMAN MCKEVITTASSEMBLYMAN MCKEVITT is partnering the Nassau County Police Department to help residents safely dispose of their expired or unused medication. The “Shed the Meds” program will take place on Saturday July 31, from 9 am to 12: pm at the Garden City Fire Station No. 3, on the corner of St. James North and Clinton Road in Garden City. Residents can drop off any medication that has expired or that they no longer need. The medication dropped off will be collected and safely disposed of by the police officers present.

August 1: McCarron, Muller & Schatz - Guitarist Mark McCarron and cellist Suzanne Mueller are joined by guest percussionist Stefan Schatz in an eclectic program featuring classical through fiddling and jazz.

August 15: Cross Island - Cellist Suzanne Mueller is joined by pianist Elinor Abrams Zayas in a varied program including classical music, rags, tangos, and more.

MISCHIEF AND MAYEM: THE POLICE REPORT

PO LAURITA arrested a Westbury woman, age 38, on July 22nd for aggravated unlicensed operation after a routine traffic stop for an expired inspection ticket. She also had an outstanding bench warrant against her... LARCENY FROM AN AUTO: a car parked in the Fifth Street parking lot next to St. Joseph’s Church had a roll of quarters and $5 in cash stolen from it on July 23rd... LEAVING THE SCENE: a Hempstead resident’s automobile was struck by a Silverado on Stewart Avenue at Washington Avenue on July 23rd. The Silverado fled the scene without exchanging information.... POLICE ARRESTED a 37 year-old female for petit larceny for allegedly stealing a sweatshirt valued at $73 from PayHalf on July 24th. After she allegedly fled that store Garden City detectives located her inside CVS and arrested her. She was also charged with a parole violation... IDENTITY THEFT: a 22 year-old Cambria Heights woman has been charged with identity theft for allegedly using banking information from Key Foods to misappropriate money. According to police, she was able to use the payroll account of the company to pay her own personal bills (well, at least for a while). The original thefts took place starting in February, police say... RANDOM ATTACK OR ROAD RAGE? A Garden City man was attacked while sitting in his car in front of his Wickham Road home on July 27th. According to police, a car pulled up alongside the victim and the operator, a male in his mid twenties, motioned for him to roll down his window. The attacker then asked for directions, and as the victim was giving them, he suddenly sprayed an unknown substance into the victim’s face. The assailant then backed his car up to Newmarket Road and fled. The car is described as a red, four door, older model car. The victim suffered eye irritation, but refused medical attention.

ALARMS AND BLAZES: THE FIRE REPORT

THE GARDEN CITY Fire Department assisted in extricating victims of the three car accident on Stewart Avenue on July 25th at Stewart and Butler, as well as cleaning up fluids spilled from the wrecked cars. (See story on page one for more information.)

SEVERAL REPORTS of wires down or arcing during the heat wave and thunderstorms this week. A Pell Terrace home reported arcing power lines on July 21st... HOMEOWNERS on Merillon Ave. reported arcing on July 22nd... A HARVARD STREET homeowner also reported arcing on July 24th... WIRES WERE DOWN at a Poplar Street home on July 25th and also at a Stratford Avenue home on July 26th... FIREFIGHTERS ASSISTED the Westbury Fire Department at a vehicle fire on Ring Road on July 27th... THEY ALSO helped clean up spills after a motor vehicle accident at Stewart and Meadbrook on July 27th...

NICE GUYS: Firefighters assisted a Franklin Court resident in getting back into his home after being locked out on July 21st.... AND KIND TO ANIMIALS, TOO: they also helped free a bird that had become entangled in string in a tree on Rockaway Avenue on July 23rd...

OTHER ALARMS : there were also an additional ten automatic fire alarms that were either unfounded or accidental. There were also two unfounded carbon monoxide alarms.
