A special PowerPoint presentation, “Come Fly With Me: A Salute to Floyd Bennett Field,” will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fort Tilden National Park in Rockaway, Queens. Visitors will learn the story of the Golden Age of aviation, focusing on Floyd Bennett Field in the 1930s.

Garden City resident and history buff Cyril Smith assures it will be worth taking the day trip to Rockaway. “It is a pleasant place, a bit far-a-field from Garden City,” he acknowledges. “However, Garden City was then closely tied into early aviation and Floyd Bennett Field. Also, many aviators stayed at the Garden City Hotel, and several families here entertained them with meals, etc.”
