Tai Chi Workshop Offered
A free Tai Chi workshop for breast cancer patients will be offered on Thursday, August 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Alumni House at Adelphi University.
Tai Chi is an ancient art that has been practiced for centuries in China. In the last 10 years, it has become highly recognized in the west as an exercise that brings harmony to the mind and body. The slow dance-like moves, combined with regulated breathing, aim to circulate “chi” (the body’s internal energy). This concentrated movement helps to restore balance, improve posture and strengthen muscles while calming the mind. It is a safe and effective exercise for everyone to perform at her own level of ability.
The instructor, Dorothy Scott, has been a teacher and practitioner of Tai Chi for the last nine years. She teaches at Clark Botanical Gardens in Albertson. Her style is consistent with that of the “Wu” form of Tai Chi.
This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the LI2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Alumni House is located at 154 Cambridge Avenue, at Adelphi University in Garden City. Pre-registration is required for all workshops. Call (516) 877-4325.
