YOUTH GAELIC GAMES TOURNAMENT: Organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association Minor Board and Gaelic 4 Girls, the CYC tournament will be held at Eisenhower Park during the weekend of July 29-August 1, 2010 and will bring more 1,500 elite players from across the nation, plus teams from Canada, Ireland, and England. Teams will compete in traditional games of Gaelic football and hurling. An opening parade will take place on July 29th in Rockville Centre at 7:00PM. MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM: THE POLICE REPORT

GRAFFITI WAS FOUND in a bathroom at the Community Park inside the men’s changing room on July 14th... A 41 YEAR-OLD Plainview woman was arrested by Pos Reilly and McCarthy after she drove herself to the Nassau County Probation Office off Parking Field 6 on July 14th. The problem was that her license to drive had been suspended because of a DWI conviction. She was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation, expired registration and uninsured vehicle.... TWO BICYCLES valued at $500 were stolen from a Newmarket Road Driveway during the evening hours of July 15th... THE DRIVER’S SIDE window of a 1997 Ford was damaged while parked in Parking Field 6E. Damage was estimated at $200... AN IPOD WITH CHARGER and a Garmin GPS was stolen from a vehicle parked on 7th Street on July 15th. The value of the property was estimated at $440. No damage was done to the vehicle and the mode of entry is unknown.... ON JULY 16th someone damaged two driveway lights at a Rockaway Ave residence. Damage was estimated at $200... ON JULY 16TH, PO Officer Bandl stopped a 41 year-old Uniondale man on Franklin Ave for having dark tinted windows. He was subsequently arrested when it was determined that the his license status was suspended for administrative violations... SEVERAL CARS PARKED at, Grove St, Chestnut St and Brook St residences were entered during the overnight hours of July 18th. Stolen items included: loose change and an IPOD... A GARDEN CITY DETECTIVE was patrolling Meadow Street at approximately 11 PM on July 18th when he observed a vehicle westbound in the eastbound lane. He was stopped and upon investigation it was determined that the subject, a 35 year-old Garden City man had 35 driver license suspensions. He was arrested and charged with Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlicensed Operation and Unsafe Lane Usage.... ON JULY 18TH PO Lamardo arrested a male, 41, from Hicksville for the alleged larceny of $140 of store merchandise from Sears...

THE FIRE REPORT:

FIREFIGHTERS responded to a Locust Street home on July 14th due to a report of wires down in the yard (they turned out to be telephone wires - not a danger).... HOWEVER at a Warton Place home on July 17th, firefighters found an entire electrical pole down in the yard. They secured the area... AN OVERLOADED transformer was a cause for concern at 400 Garden City Plaza on July 19th... A SMALL KITCHEN fire in the cafeteria at 401 Franklin Avenue was put out before firefighters arrived on July 16th... FIREFIGHTERS just had to go next door to respond to a call at Village Hall on July 21st. It seems that a phone circuit board began to smolder when water from a leak contacted it... ALTHOUGH IT WAS a slow week for real calls, the fire department also responded to fourteen automatic alarms, most of which were either for accidental activations or malfunctions. (Only one burnt toast alarm this week!)....
