NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (NYIT) will host the Playing for Parkinson’s concert on Sunday, July 18, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., featuring The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra, to benefit NYIT’s Adele Smithers Parkinson’s Disease Treatment Center. The concert will be held at the W. Kenneth Riland Academic Health Care Center auditorium at NYIT’s Old Westbury campus. Tickets cost $25 per person, and all proceeds are tax-deductible. THE REAR WINDOW of a Franklin Avenue business was smashed on July 6th. Loss was $150... A TOM TOM GPS was taken from a vehicle on Garden Street on July 7th. There was no damage to the vehicle.... ALSO ON GARDEN Street, a Schwinn bicycle was stolen from an open garage at 10:30 a.m. on July 9th... SOMEONE DAMAGED a driveway light fixture on Cathedral Avenue on July 10th. Damage was $100.... SOMEONE DAMAGED window panes at a Magnolia Street home in the two weeks prior to July 10th.. . A GARDEN CITY male, age 19, was issued an appearance ticket for possessing beer on July 10th... GARDEN CITY POLICE assisted Nassau County police in apprehending a male, age 33, from Hicksville who was allegedly driving recklessly. The Nassau Police said the man fled after being pulled over on July 10th, but he was ultimately stopped by Garden City Police on Clinton Road. He was charged with DWI, reckless endangerment and disregarding the lawful order of a police officer... SOMEONE STOLE a license plate from a vehicle parked in a driveway on Stratford Avenue on July 11. Upon investigation, police found the plates on other nearby cars had been damaged, apparently in attempts to remove them... THE DRIVER’S side window was smashed on a car behind a Franklin Avnue Business on July 11th. Damage was $200... AN ALERT ST. JAMES Street South resident called police after observing two youths attempt to take a bicycle from a neighbor’s garage. The youths were described as male, Hispanics, age 13-15, 5’10’’. One was wearing jeans and a red shirt; the other, jeans and a black shirt....

A ROOSEVELT STREET homeowner called the fire department on July 7th to report a branch on wires... THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ASSISTED a Main Avenue resident who needed oxygen during a power failure on July 7th... A BRUSH FIRE on Tanners Pond Road on July 7th was put out by fire fighters... WATER ENTERING a manhole on Franklin Avenue caused wires to arc on July 8th... A HAMPTON ROAD resident called the fire department about electrical wires burning in the back yard on July 8th... FIRE FIGHTERS put out a dumpster fire on Franklin Avenue on July 9th... FIRE FIGHTERS ASSISTED with an Eleventh Street homeowner who had water entering his basement during a storm on July 10th... According to the report, water from the parking lot drains to a patio with an insufficient dry well.... FIREFIGHTERS INVESTIGATED a continuously ringing alarm at an Oxford Blvd. home on July 13th. There was no fire, and to silence the alarm system they had to cut the wires to its speaker.... A ROOSEVELT Street homeowner called the fire department about downed wires on July 13th... A NEW HYDE PARK Road home had basement flooding on July 13th... FIREFIGHTERS assisted a Hathaway Ave homeowner with a water leak on July 13th... AN ADAMS STREET homeowner called about low hanging wires on July 13th... A TOASTER FIRE was reported at a Kingsbury Road home on July 13th...
