Garden City Artist Honored by Hyram Landers

“Where have you been hiding?” Lillian Forziat was asked as she presented her entries to the acceptance committee at The Suburban Art League’s Annual Open Show. “You’ve nailed it,” remarked Phyllis Coniglio, web master for the League, with admiration as her eyes swept across Ms. Forziat’s entries. Still, one ought never to assume chickens until the eggs have feathers.

The Suburban Art League, Inc. was established back in 1963 with a mission of promoting artists and art appreciation through demonstrations, exhibitions, and juried competitions. The League’s Annual Open Show, run in association with the Town of Oyster Bay presented its awards on June 22nd. The eggs had feathers as local artist Lillian Forziat received Award of Excellence for her still life oil painting “Cherry Blossoms & Tapestry.”

During his critique fine art jurist Edward McEvoy was effusive in his praise of “Cherry Blossoms & Tapestry.” McEvoy, speaking on behalf of his fellow jurists, was impressed with the artist’s dexterity in rendering the textures of fabric, and the essences of brass and florals in a masterly still life oil painting. “This is an oil painting done in the tradition of fine oil paintings,” he said reverently at one point. He and the other jurists had high praise for the artist’s subtle command of light and color.

“Cherry Blossoms & Tapestry” and many other examples of Ms. Forziat’s art work may be viewed on her web site www.artgalleryLF.homestead.com or www.lillian-forziat.com.
