Members of the Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution were pleased to participate in the Annual Memorial Day Fair at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Monday, May 31st, spending the beautiful day selling chances for two raffle baskets to benefit Project Patriot.
Project Patriot is an NSDAR effort to provide assistance to American Soldiers who have been wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan, and have been evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for stabilization. This is an American military hospital in Germany. NSDAR uses the funds to purchase phone cards and other necessary items which provide comfort to our wounded troops during their stay.
Taking a well deserved break: Bruce Littlejohn and Matt Fay helped the ladies of the Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter NSDAR raise funds for our wounded troops.
The day was hot and occasionally blustery , and chapter members, including Isabelle Smith, June Fay, Janet Littlejohn, Roz Dorn, Meredith Schertzer, WW II veteran nurse Mary Poole and Chapter Project Patriot Chairman Leslie Dimmling offered those attending the fair, raffle tickets for two lovely gift baskets. They were assisted in their efforts by two DAR husbands, Bruce Littlejohn and Matt Fay. Ticket sales were brisk, and chapter members were pleased to raise $415 dollars during this event . In addition, the ladies distributed 105 small American flags to the public.
At the end of the afternoon the winning tickets were drawn. The winner of the first basket was Barbara Trafaglia of Garden City. The second basket was won by Lucille Boernsen of Franklin Square. Congratulations to the lucky winners!!
Members of the chapter wish to express their thanks to all those fair-goers who supported this effort to assist our wounded troops, and who helped make the day such a success.
