Elementary Students Place In Poster Contest
Three Stratford Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) students have placed in the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) 4th and 5th grade division of the National FLES Poster Contest. Pictured here with Stratford Principal Diane Hopkins and FLES teacher William Kupferman are the winning students (left to right): 2nd place - Harrison Ernst (grade 4, Catherine Metrick, teacher); 3rd place - Cristina Scalfani (grade 5, Lauren Bowler, teacher), and honorable mention - Jean Simmons (grade 4, Sara Santeramo, teacher).
I am so proud of the kids,” commented Mr. Kupferman. “They came up with wonderful ideas about the ways in which studying a foreign language provides a person with more opportunities in life. They really did a great job expressing these ideas in their drawings. It is quite an honor for our students to be recognized on the national level!”
