Museum of Art’s latest exhibition will open on June 5. “The Sea Around Us” portrays the magnetism we feel for bodies of water alongside the dangers, even the terror, that seas often present. This exhibition examines the romantic fascination artists have always had for expanses of water through American and European artists working in many styles from the mid-19th century to the present. of the New York State Society of CPAs is again hosting “The Ellen Gordon CPAs 4 (a) Cause 5K” run/walk to be held on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Wantagh Park, Wantagh, NY. COMPUTER CAMP FOR SENIORS
- Want to learn to use a computer? Nassau County residents 50 and over can register for Summer Computer Camp that begins on June 15 for 2 weeks, and again on July 13th for 6 weeks, at 50 Clinton Street, Hempstead or the Bristal Assisted Living in North Hills. The Computer Camp offers classes for people who have never used a computer before as well as those with more experience. Volunteer instructors and coaches make learning easy. MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM: THE POLICE REPORT
SEVERAL SEVENTH STREET stores were targeted by vandals on May 30th. Garden City Pizza and The Pear Tree both had smashed windows, while a lock at Bagelman was apparently tampered with.... A CONCRETE LION was stolen from a Whitehall Blvd. home on May 25th... A GARMIN GPS system, valued at $250, was taken from a car on Willow Street on May 26... PO McCARTHY arrested a female, age 52, from Roslyn Heights for allegedly stealing $330 in Lands End clothing and paint from Sears...
A TRUCK STOP on May 26th inspected nine trucks. Of those, four were taken out of service and 69 tickets were issued (14 for overweight violations)... A SEATBELT checkpoint on May 28th issued 15 tickets for failing to use occupant restraints and 23 for other violations...
IT WAS PARTY TIME in Garden City during the holiday weekend. AT A MAGNOLIA Street residence, police issued two tickets on May 29 for underage alcohol possession and one to the teenager who held the party without adult supervision... AT ANOTHER PARTY at the Ethical Humanist Society on Old Country Road, the DJ received a ticket for excessive noise... A TRANSVERSE ROAD resident refused to turn down music at his party on May 30th and was issued an appearance ticket...
ALONG WITH PARTIES the police had several other alcohol related items this week. DETECTIVES arrested a male, age 38, from Hempstead after he hit a parked car and then a car driving in the opposite direction on Meadow Street on May 30th. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the driver was charged with aggravated DWI (.19 blood alcohol level), unlicensed, unregistered and uninspected, and having an alcoholic beverage in the car... PO WEHR saw a driver make a turn from Clinton onto the wrong side of Chestnut on May 30th and pulled him over. According to police the driver, a male, age 24, from Little Neck had a .12 alcohol level...
ALSO THIS WEEK, police arrested a 48 year old Garden City man for entering his neighbor’s home on May 15th without permission. He was charged with criminal trespass... PO DELOLIO arrested a female, age 57, from Freeport for allegedly stealing $1500 in clothing from Lord and Taylor on May 29th... ON MAY 29, DETECTIVES arrested a Garden City male, age 18, for allegedly stealing a $1500 Mac iBook from a Nassau Blvd. home... SOMEONE BROKE the passenger window on a vehicle on Rockaway Ave. (by the High School) on June 1st. A pocketbook with cash and credit cards was taken...
THE FIRE REPORT
A GARBAGE CAN fire spread at a Monroe Street home on May 28th and damaged a washer and dryer and the surrounding walls. The cause is believed to have been a cigarette that was not fully extinguished before it was thrown out... FIRE FIGHTERS ALSO had to put out a fire in the shed of a Wilson Street home on May 28th... THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ASSISTED with an injured person at a motor vehicle accident on May 29th on Franklin and Eleventh Street... THEY ALSO HELPED clean up spills at an accident on Duveruax Place and Stewart Avenue on May 30th..
