Stewart School students directed the donors to the LIBS blood donation program in the school’s gymnasium on February 25th. A total of 202 pints of blood were collected at Garden City’s Stewart and Stratford Schools during their recent blood drives. Assisting with the event were “Little Doctors,” students trained by Long Island Blood Services (LIBS) to assist with greeting the donors, providing them with juice and cookies after donating blood, and writing thank you notes. During the “Little Doctors” program, the students learned about the function of blood in the body and how vital blood donations are for patients in need. Considering that one pint of blood can save up to 3 people, the blood drives held at Stewart and Stratford on February 24th and 25th could potentially save up to 606 lives.

Thank you to all the donors who generously gave the gift of life during these blood drives, to the “Little Doctors” who trained and volunteered during the events, as well as to the parents and Long Island Blood Services workers who donated their time organizing and volunteering for the blood drives.

After their blood donations, these donors were treated to juice and cookies at the “Little Doctors’ “ canteen at Stewart School.
