U2charist Worship Service

2010-03-19 / Community

The public is invited to attend a U2charist, a worship service incorporating live performances of the music of the Irish rock band, U2, that will be held at Garden City Community Church on Sunday, March 21 at 5:00 pm. Talented young people and adults from the village and nearby communities are working together to present a service that, while far different from a typical Sunday morning church service, will speak profoundly about issues of peace and justice in the world.

There is no admission charge for the U2charist, but a free-will offering will be received, with donations going to support efforts to fight extreme poverty and provide disaster relief. U2 and Universal Music Group have generously given blanket permission for their music to be used in a U2charist as long as 100% of the proceeds go to an organization furthering Millennium Development Goals - fighting to end poverty on a world-wide level.

The congregation will enjoy and participate in live performances of such U2 favorites as “Beautiful Day,” “Pride,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” “One,” and “When Love Comes to Town.” There will also be some lesser-known songs, including “MLK,” written in memory if Martin Luther King, Jr.

Guests from all faith traditions are welcome to attend and participate in the service. The Garden City Community Church is affiliated with the United Church of Christ, and is located at 245 Stewart Avenue, Garden City. For more information, please contact the church office at 516-746-1700.
