Anxiety and Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears, which meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. In addition, members learn how to face psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM:
ON MARCH 16, a wallet was taken from the Talbot’s store on Franklin Avenue and $40, personal papers, and credit cards were missing... ON MARCH 13, detectives arrested a 24-year-old North Babylon male who had allegedly left the scene of a 3-car accident at Franklin Avenue. He allegedly had caused a back injury to one passenger, a 27-year-old Rockville Centre woman, in one of the cars, and he was charged with alleged personal injury and leaving the scene... PAINT SUPPLIES: a ladder, paint, and nails, were taken by thieves who evidently entered a vacant house at Cherry Valley Avenue between March 13 and 14. Value $275... On March 12, there were several incidents of break-ins to unlocked cars at East Drive. A $100 heat gun was taken from one, as well as a Garmin GPS and Apple iPhone from another, both valued at $500, as well as various small amounts of money from other cars... ON MARCH 15, thieves went to the Meadow Street and Chestnut Street areas and found $1 in one car... THEN MORE HAPPENED in the vicinity of Fourth Street, on March 10 where a $250 GPS Magellan was stolen... ON MARCH 14, a $200 DVD player was taken from a car parked at a Franklin Court address...ON MARCH 14, PO Oswald arrested a 30-year-old Mastic man at Clinton Road/Locust Street, for alleged DWI (.08%) after the motorist allegedly went over yellow line markings there. He was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation, no passing zone, unsafe lane change, alleged speeding at 55 in a 30 mph zone, no license, and uninsured... ON MARCH 11, detectives went to a Baldwin address and arrested a 35-year-old male for alleged ID theft first degree. It seems he had accessed the account of an Old Country Road business and he made charges over $13,000. He also was charged with computer trespass... ON MARCH 12, police arrested a 22-year-old GC female for allegedly charging over $1600 in items at a Seventh Street business when she worked as cashier there. Seems the girl used a person’s Mastercard that had been saved in the computer system... PO HENNESSY reported a suspicious person behind the wheel of a car parked at Stewart Avenue/Hilton Avenue on March 13, 3:36 a.m. After an investigation it was determined that the key to the car was in the ignition with the engine running and that driver was arrested for alleged DWI (.13%)...ON MARCH 4, PO Sommer arrested a 26-year-old East Northport male for allegedly possessing several bags of marijuana at Clinton Road. The motorist was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, alleged speeding, and no inspection... ON MARCH 10, PO Sansone arrived at the scene of a dispute between a restaurant employee and patron at a Seventh Street restaurant. After the intoxicated patron was told to walk or to take a cab, he decided to take his car a few minutes later. He allegedly drove without headlights on, failed to signal before making a U turn on Seventh Street and then proceeded to drive. Police stopped him and arrested him for alleged DWI (.16%), the failure to signal a lane change, unlicensed operation, no registration and no insurance... ON MARCH 11, police conducted a truck stop at Clinton Road where 7 trucks were inspected, 52 tickets issued, 1 truck taken out of service, with 2 over length violations and 1 weight violation... ON MARCH 12, Clinton Road again, another truck stop was conducted with 7 trucks inspected, 2 trucks taken out of service, 1 suspended license, 3 tickets for weight, and 57 tickets total... ON MARCH 15, a truck stop was conducted at NHP Road where 7 trucks were inspected with 4 taken out of service and 42 tickets issued...
FIRE RESPONSES:
SMOKE FROM COOKING set off an alarm at Novita Wine Bar, Franklin Avenue, on March 10... On March 13, wires arced at Newmarket Road... ON THAT SAME DAY, there were various reports of wires coming down and trees coming down throughout the village. Fourth Street, Russell Road, Brook Street, Clinton Road, Kingsbury Road, Third Street, Sackville Road, Huntington Road, and College Place to name a few... UNATTENDED CLOTHING left on a heating element caused smoke at NY Sports Clubs, Franklin Avenue, on March 15. Natural ventilation was used... WATER LEAKED in a basement at Tanners Pond Road on the same day... FD Assisted police with a lockout at Cedar Place on March 16...
