News From The Children’s Room Read to a Dog

Bideawee will bring dogs to the Library to give children the opportunity to read to a dog. The program is open to children in Grades 1-5 and will be held Tuesday, March 30 at 1:00PM. Registration begins Saturday, March 20 at 9:00AM on Eventkeeper. This program is limited to Garden City residents.

Grammy-Nominated Children’s Musician

Brady Rymer

The talented Brady Rymer, a Grammy nominated musician, will present a performance that’s fun for the entire family. The show will be held Wednesday, March 31 at 11:00AM. Ticket distribution begins Saturday, March 20 at 9:00AM. This program is limited to Garden City residents.

Women’s History Month

The Children’s Room is celebrating Women’s History Month in March with a book display dedicated to fascinating women throughout history. Read about Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, Civil War nurse Clara Barton, or First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Some other interesting women you can come read about include writer Louisa May Alcott, tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams, Powhatan Princess Pocahontas, abolitionist Sojourner Truth, diarist Anne Frank, and Queen Elizabeth I of England.

Let’s Get Graphic!

In the Book Ends’ third and final program of the season, we’ll be exploring one of the most entertaining and popular genres - the graphic novel. The program will be held Saturday, April 17 at 3:00PM for children currently in Grades 3-5 and will include games and a craft. Get in touch with your creative side! Check with a Children’s Librarian for availability.

Celebrate National TV Turnoff Week 2010:

April 19-25!

For the week of April 19-25, the Children’s Room is proud to offer an array of programming that encourages children to turn off the television and to do some new activities that are creative, exciting, and fun. All programs are limited to Garden City residents.

Family Storytime (Wednesday, April 21 at 7:30PM) - For the whole family! Join us for a variety of stories, songs, and rhymes! No registration is required.

Drop-in Crafts Day (Thursday, April 22 from 3:30PM-5:30PM) - Open to all! Stop by and help us to reduce, reuse, and recycle the supplies in our craft cabinets, while making something cute to take home! No registration is required.

Hobby Fair (Saturday, April 24 from 1:00PM-4:00PM) - Open to all! What are some fun things you do that don’t involve the television? Share your collections with others or demonstrate your hobby. Reserve a space to show off your hobby beginning Saturday, April 10 at 9:00AM on Eventkeeper. If you’d like to just explore, watch, and learn, no registration is required.

Please check the Library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
