Free Lecture At Winthrop
Winthrop-University Hospital’s Advances in Cancer Care educational series will offer a free program, “CyberKnife(r) Radiosurgery for Cancer,” on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 7:00 PM. It will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.
Jonathan Haas, MD, Chief of Radiation Oncology at Winthrop-University Hospital, will explain the CyberKnife Radiosurgery system, which delivers precisely targeted radiation to previously untreatable and unreachable rumors, minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Attendees will learn how it compares to traditional radiation therapy systems, and how it uses cruise-missile guidance technology to treat tumors in the brain, spine and lung, as well as prostate cancer.
“Winthrop was the first CyberKnife Treatment Center on Long Island, and our team has unparalleled experience in using this system,” said Dr. Hass. He will also review Winthrop’s success in using CyberKnife. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call (516) 663-9370 to reserve your space or for further information.
The Advances in Cancer Care series is a free community health education program presented by the Institute for Cancer Care at Winthrop. For information about other educational programs offered at Winthrop, please 1-866-WINTHROP or visit www.winthrop.org.
