Garden City’s Reina Twins Take Silver
Thomas Reina Spins Behind
Both Thomas and Jack Reina traveled to Binghamton, New York for the annual New York State Youth Wrestling Championships held on March 7th. Both boys wrestled in the Schoolboy Division which consisted of 400 wrestlers, a stunning increase from 250 boys last year. The 400 are the best of the best, qualifying for their respective New York counties to wrestle in the State Championships. Thomas weighed in at the 98 pound weight bracket, Jack in the 105 pound bracket. Both boys placed second, winning New York State’s Silver for each bracket. In large part, the boys owe their thanks to Kathy and Ron Lofrese who give so much of their time and expertise to the sport, as well as their phenomenal coaches, Paul Gillespie, Jon Masa, Matt Dadino and Ron Lofrese.
Richie Petrone and Tyler Sandoval, two of the Garden City Grappler’s younger athletes, also qualified for the honor of competing at the States in the Intermediate division. They wrestled well and Garden City looks forward to watching their wrestling careers unfold as they both hold promise for mastering this difficult sport. Congratulations, boys, you’ve made Garden City proud!
