Garden City Primary Schools Celebrate 100 Days of School
Hemlock Principal Audrey Bellovin (right) introduced former professional athletes Dean Chynoweth (left) and Chad Cascadden (center) to the kindergartners on the 100th day of school.
The 100th day of school was celebrated on February 23rd at Garden City’s three primary schools with a variety of fun and educational activities. To mark the occasion, the PTAs at all three schools purchased special 100th day shirts for every child and staff member to wear. The kindergartners and first graders read books, created projects illustrating the concept of 100, and, at Hemlock, did 100 exercises with professional sports celebrities Chad Cascadden, formerly of the New York Jets, and Dean Chynoweth, a former New York Islanders hockey player. The athletes spoke to the students about what it was like to play pro sports, answered student questions, and led 10 sets of 10 different exercises to warm up the children with 100 exercises before learning in classroom commenced.
All of Hemlock’s students and staff gathered for a group photo wearing their 100th day tee shirts donated by the PTA.
Special thanks to Chad Cascadden, Dean Chynoweth, and the PTA parents at Hemlock, Homestead, and Locust for making the 100th day celebrations such a success!
Running in place was just one of the 10 exercises these Hemlock students participated in on the 100th day of school.
Reaching and stretching, these students participated in the exercise session led by the athletes at Hemlock Primary School.
Led by former NY Jets player Chad Cascadden, kindergartners did floor stretches to warm up before returning the their classrooms.
