Student Artist Contest Deadline Approaches
The Garden City Historical Society reminds students that the deadline of March 26 for submissions to the fifth annual Juried Children’s Art Contest, “Landscapes of Garden City” is only three weeks away. The contest is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12 who reside in Garden City. All submissions must illustrate a landscape located in the Village. Drawings must be created in pencil, color pencil, or pen and ink, and artwork must not exceed 18 by 24 inches, including mat. For high school students only (grades 9-12), we will again have a photography/computer graphics category. This year’s contest is partially underwritten by Sunflower Fine Art on Seventh Street.
The contest has four art categories: K-1, Grades 2 through 5, Middle School, and High School. Photography/computer graphics will be a separate category for high school students only. The contest will be judged by local residents with art backgrounds. Awards will be presented to First Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention winners in each category.
The Historical Society will host a reception for the winning artists and their families on Sunday, April 11, at The Garden City Historical Society Museum, 109 Eleventh Street. Awards will be presented at that time. A Children’s Art Exhibit including all entries will be open to the public at the Museum on two weekends: April 10-11 and 17-18, from 1 to 3 p.m. On the two Saturday afternoons, parents and family members are also encouraged to stop in and browse through the Society’s consignment shop, the A.T. Stewart Exchange, on our Lower Level.
