Help Girl Scouts Help Others
Please help the Girl Scouts help others by donating some of the items described below at the 4th Annual Girl Scouts of Garden City Birthday Party/Bakeoff on Tuesday, March 16th, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Garden City High School Cafeteria.
The Girl Scouts will be collecting non-perishable Food Items for the Mary Brennan Inn, which is in great need at this time.
In addition, the Girl Scouts are gathering new or very gently used STUFFED ANIMALS to be sent to comfort children affected by natural disasters, including victims of recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. These “HUGS”, as they are known, should be cuddly-soft, plush, new, or excellent condition very gently used, clean stuffed animals about 6 inches to 18 inches tall, real animal likenesses, NO TV or movie characters, except Classic Disney or Snoopy. NO Dolls, Beanie Babies, battery-operated/mechanical animals, holiday stuffed animals, reptiles, bugs or sea creatures. HUGS are cuddly-cute, not creepy/scary. Ask yourself, “Would this stuffed animal comfort a child going through scary situations in parts of the world where there is no television?”
Also, Emily Madigan, a Senior Girl Scout, is collecting new children’s pajamas as a part of her Gold Award Project to be distributed to children living in shelters, some of whom only have one set of clothes.
If you would like to help, but are unable to drop off these items at the High School Cafeteria on March 16, you may drop them off through Sunday, March 21st at 8 Yale Street, Garden City, on the porch. Thank for helping the Girl Scouts help others!
