Former Resident Wins Town Justice Election

Former Garden City resident Jessica Gail Byrne-York recently won Town Justice election in New Lebanon, New York.
After receiving endorsements from the Democratic, Independence, and Conservative Parties, Jessica agreed to run against the local incumbent, Shaun McHugh.
Jessica holds a B.S. in International Trade and Marketing, Juris Doctor, MA in criminal Justice. She attended the Fashion Institute of
Technology. St. Johns, School of Law. S.U.N.Y. Albany, Criminal Justice, Magna Cum Laude. Jessica interned at the Rensselear County District Attorney’s Office, and most recently as a Bar Advocate, representing indigent parents and children in Care and Protection and Juvenile Delinquency matters as well as managing her busy criminal defense practice. Jessica is practicing in Massachusetts. Jessica is president of the Helen Berube Teen-Parent program, (board of directors) and a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and Berkshire County Bar Advocates.
Jessica won the election in November and was sworn in on New Year’s Eve by her co-judge The Honorable Darcy Poppy, and took the bench for her first time January 21,2010.
This elected position is for four years and hopefully with all the support shown by the community will remain New Lebanon Town Judge for many years. Jessica resides in New Lebanon, N.Y. with her husband Casey York and her daughter, Mary Madeleine York and step-son Christopher York.
Jessica Byrne-York has made history in Columbia County New York, as the youngest sitting female judge.
Her father John Byrne of Garden City and Canaan, N.Y. and mother Gail Byrne-Vantassel of New Lebanon, N.Y. along with her brothers Matthew, Edward and sister Suzannne are very proud of her.
