What’s Up For Young Adults
‘Tweens & Teens Movie Event - Hoosiers
There is no better way to warm up for March Madness than to join YAs at the Library for a special showing of the movie Hoosiers, the story of a basketball coach in a last-chance position with a last-chance team. Registration began Saturday, February 13th for the ‘Tweens & Teens Movie Event to be held on Saturday, February 27th at 2PM. Refreshments will be served.
Trinket Box of Chocolates
MaryAnn Impostato of Kids’ Edible Creations returns to the YA Department for a workshop on molding chocolates. Each participant will go home with a box made of chocolate, decorated and wrapped in Easter grass and pastel bows. Registration begins March 13th at 9:00 AM and is limited to 20.
Yak & Snack
Registration begins March 13th at 9:00 AM for the book discussion of Finding Buck McHenry, by Alfred Slote. Could Mr. Henry, the custodian at Jason’s school, possibly have some connection with former baseball great Buck McHenry? Jason pressures an admission from Mr. Henry and talks him into coaching a newly formed team. This comic, suspenseful baseball story is both a book and a film. Join Librarian Melinda Alford and other YAs to view the movie and discuss how the book and the movie differ but are the same. Refreshments - peanuts, popcorn, Cracker Jacks, and cupcakes - will be served. This program is limited to 20.
Young adult programs are for students in Grade 6-12 and priority is given to Garden City Library cardholders. Registration for young adults may now be done through the Library’s new online calendar system Eventkeeper, which may be reached 24/7 by clicking on Calendar of Events on the website at www.gardencitypl.org. Funding for these programs is provided by The Friends of The Garden City Public Library.
