Seating Of Honorary Canons At The Cathedral
Men and Boys Choirs of the Cathedral
Sunday March 7th at 4 p.m. there will be a Choral Evensong for Lent and the Seating of Honorary Canons at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. It will be sung by the Men and Boys Choirs of the Cathedral. The canons to be seated are: The Rev. Richard F. Brewer III, The Rev. Lewellyn St. Elmo Murray, Louise M. Baietto, and Charles Janoff, Esq. Charles Janoff is a member of the Cathedral’s parish and a resides in Garden City South with his wife Kathy and daughter Elizabeth.
The music for the service will include T. Tertius Noble’s Evening Service in B minor. Noble was an English organist and composer who later moved to New York and founded the renowned Saint Thomas Choir School for Boys in New York City. Also as part of the service, Paul Spicer’s Preces and Responses and Henry Balfour Gardiner’s Evening Hymn will be sung. Gardiner was also an English composer. The Evening Hymn is considered a classic of English choral music. It is a setting of the Compline hymn Te lucis ante terminum (To thee before the close of day). All are welcome to attend this beautiful traditional service full of classical music. There is no admission fee. The Cathedral of the Incarnation is located at 50 Cathedral Avenue in Garden City.
