Library Friends Sponsor Free Lecture

You don’t have to be famous - or even an experienced writer - to chronicle the times of your life. Professor Eileen Obser will present a FREE overview lecture “An Introduction to Memoir Writing” on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St., Garden City, NY. This public program is funded by The Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Seating and parking is limited and on a first-come first-served basis. No tickets are required. For directions phone: (516) 742-8405.

Eileen Obser has been teaching creative writing and/or running writing workshops for over 15 years. She taught for 3 years at Southampton’s L. I. University in the Continuing Ed. Dept., where she started their first creative writing workshop. Eileen also taught a writing course/workshop at Suffolk County Community College for 10 years. She started another creative writing & memoir writing workshop at the Ross School in East Hampton and ran a writing workshop at the Southampton Historical Society for 3 years. For several years she was a Taproot leader, meeting at the Library in Sag Harbor each week with a group of very talented senior citizens who wanted to write about their lives. (The Taproot organization offers classes on Long Island, NYC, and in Connecticut and publishes a yearly journal “for older writers.”) She has written articles, essays, humor & light verse for The Washington Post Magazine, New York Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine, Newsday, The Village Voice, The East Hampton Star, Proteus, The Southampton Review, and others. Her Memoir, Only You (And You Alone) is being prepared for publication.
