Cummin Clancy was recently honored in Ireland with his induction into the Hall of Fame. He was the first person from the county of his birth, Galway, to represent Ireland in the Olympics. Having won the British Championships in 1948, he went on to compete in the discus in the 1948 Olympics in London. He held the Irish record for the discus for nineteen years and won the Penn Relays and the ICAAA track meets in the US while attending Villanova University. He was also an outstanding rugby player.

The County Galway Sports Stars Awards, where many young athletes from all sports were honored, was the occasion for the presentation of the Hall of Fame Award to Cummin Clancy. He spoke about his humble beginnings and the importance of sport in his life.

Clancy Clan gathers to honor a legend” He has often said how wonderful it is when an athlete can transfer that competitive spirit from the world of sports into the world of business. He was delighted to have his wife Maureen, all five children and all his Irish nieces and nephews attending this very special event where he received several standing ovations.
