Community Club Presents “Norman Rockwell”
Renata Rego Monteiro chairman of the Art Department of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead cordially invites all members and guests to attend a lecture by well known Sands Point artist Dan Christoffel who will speak on Norman Rockwell, “The painter of Americana” at the Garden City Casino on Wednesday, March 19, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.
Norman Rockwell may just be America’s most beloved artist. Perhaps best known for the extraordinary series of highly detailed covers he painted for the Saturday Evening Post from 1816 to 1963. Rockwell excelled at capturing ordinary life of America’s people with a documentary style and a sense of humor. Also reflecting the changes in that life over a period of time that included two world wars and a depression.
Mr. Christopher, who has lectured at the Community Club numerous times over the years, retired from teaching art in the Bellmore Merrick Central High School District nine years ago and is now teaching part-time as artist in residence at C.W. Post College. He has been experiencing a resurgence in his career as a painter and a sculptor and his works are currently being featured at two prestigious Long Island galleries. Two of his 9/11 sculptures are on permanent exhibit at Adelphi University.
Please be sure to join us on March 10th to learn all about Norman Rockwell and view many of his well known works. Mr. Christoffel presents his lecture and slide show. Refreshments will be served at the tea hour following the program.
