Community Church Youth Group Helps The 30-Hour Famine

The Garden City Community Church youth recently helped the high school teens earn money for their “30 - Hour Famine”. The 6th through 8th graders sponsored a Valentine Bake Sale on Valentine’s Day at the church. They baked cookies, cupcakes & other goodies and earned over $300! The elementary school children made inspirational cards with hearts on them for the high schoolers who will fast this coming Feb. 27th and 28th.
The high schoolers are preparing for the World Vision 30-Hour Famine to be held at the end of February. The Famine raises awareness and money to fight hunger both overseas and nationally. During the 30 hours, teens will do the Famine by going without food to experience what the poorest children and families face every day. This year, the funds will be donated to relief in Haiti. For every $30 they raise it will care for a child for a month, and with the contribution from the Middle School group, they now can take care of at least 10 children already!
The teens will be fundraising throughout Garden City and completing service projects at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary and in the community. Money donations and canned goods from Garden City residents will also be accepted at the Garden City Community Church on Saturday, February 27th between 11 am and 1 pm. The canned goods will be given directly to the LICC (Long Island Council of Churches) to help feed the hungry here on Long Island. The Garden City Community Church is located on the corner of Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Boulevard. Please contribute.
