The Garden City Girls’ Varsity Fencing team just finished its season with its second straight County Championship. Leading the team through an undefeated regular season were captains Liz Mallozzi (12), Coleen Way (11), Kaitlin Sullivan (11), and Jan Gong (11). Once again, the secret to the team’s success was its tremendous dedication and team spirit that was evident in the loud, boisterous cheering of the girls on the bench. The team’s commitment to each other led to an undefeated regular season and a dominating run in the County playoffs. During the playoffs, the team also had six girls finish with All County honors on the way to outstanding results at the individual County Championships where Garden City had five medalists. In girls’ saber, junior Kaitlin Sullivan took silver and sophomore Kathryn Montgomery fifth place. In girls’ foil, sophomore Alex Webster grabbed 5th place. In girls’ epee, sophomore Srey Beaulac won her first County Championship.
