Sally Blanco Richards

Sally Blanco Richards, age 42, of Fairfield, formerly of Garden City, New York, Washington, DC, and New York City, devoted wife of George H. Richards, II, endearing mother to George, III, William, and Kate, passed away in her home on February 6, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

In addition to her loving husband of 17 years, George, and their children, Sally’s memory will be embraced by her parents. Salvatore and Rose Blanco, of Garden City; her mother-in-law, Sally Richards, of Guilford; one sister, Christine Beaty, and her husband, David, of Garden City; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Richards, of Coupeville, Washington, Ruth Richards, of Cabet, Vermont; three nieces, Alexandra, Elizabeth, and Caroline Beaty. Sally’s gift to connect so positively with those she would meet leaves many friends to remember her caring ways. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Frederic Richards. She was a graduate of Garden City High School, Georgetown University, and Yale University. A nurse practitioner, Sally taught at Yale- New Haven Hospital’s School of Nursing for several years before raising her family. Spending time with her family at their summer home in Southampton, New York, where she would play on the ocean beaches with her children, gave her much joy. She was a member of the Saugatuck Rowing Club. A talented photographer, she had a real knack for capturing her subjects character on film.

Calling hours were held at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday at St.Pius X Church, Fairfield. Virginia Barfield Page died peacefully at home in Florida, February 4, 2010.

Born in Hahira, Georgia, she graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia, and received a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University. She was a founding member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Georgia. A licensed social worker, she worked for the Department of Children and Families of the State of Georgia. During the Second World War she worked as the head on non-military personnel at Moody Army Air Corps Base in Moultrie, Georgia, where she met and married Frank Jarvis Page, a fighter pilot and her husband of over 60 years.

A long time resident of Garden City, she was a member of the Aaron Ogden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Altar Guild of The Cathedral of the Incarnation, a founder of the children’s choir, Founding President of the Garden City Historical Society, Co-Founder of the Cornelia Cotillion Debutante Ball and member of the Ladies Golf Association of the Cherry Valley Club. Virginia was a gracious hostess and talented cook. Her Christmas Eve parties will be long remembered by attendants at the midnight mass at the Cathedral.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Ferrell Page McClean of Locust Valley, Hobe Sound, and Vail Colorado, and Beatty Page Cramer of Southampton, Palm Beach and Vail Colorado, and two grandchildren, Ferrell Page McClean, a teacher in Bariloche, Argentina, and William Chichester McClean IV, a musician-composer in San Francisco.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 19th at 3:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, 141 South County Road, Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Virginia may be made to the Page Family Endowment at The Foxcroft School, P.O.
