Chamber Members and Guests filled the Ballroom at the Garden City Hotel on January 28 when they were enlightened about myriad issues impacting Garden City by Hempstead Town Supervisor, Kate Murray. The Chamber, concerned about the Lighthouse project and its effect on traffic, water and overpowering retail and office development, has continually applauded Kate Murray’s cautious approach to the project. The Supervisor told the audience that the Town Board has chartered a very steady course and has taken the job of the ultimate zoning authority with regard to the project very seriously. Of concern, she said are traffic, water and quality of life issues that surround a project of this size. Supervisor Murray also addressed other concerns such as the proposed addition of a third track on the LIRR Main Line, the light rail transit and the development of mixed housing in East Garden City.
