Oh the weather outside was frightful and the snow did what it used to do in the “Good Old Days” - it closed down nearly everything even the New York Public Schools. Announcers on the radio used to give the weather forecast by saying - Snow - followed by small children with sleds. As I watch the storm from the comfort of my home I can look back to one storm in the 1050’s. The LIRR was not running so I took the subway from N.Y.C. to 169th St. and Hillside Avenue in Jamaica and looked for a bus. Not one was running so I did what everyone else was doing - I walked from there to Garden City with the snow falling and drifts forming. It was some experience and the line of walkers went into every diner along the route to have coffee, warm up, and use the rest rooms. Now, believe it or not, it’s a fond memory but one I would not like to repeat.

Two of Garden City’s opera lovers attended a performance recently and enjoyed luncheon at the Grand Tier Restaurant in the Opera House. A diner nearby had a seizure and had to be carried out and a call was requested for 911. It took a long time because the person answering for 911 requested the address - street and number - as they did not know where the Metropolitan Opera House was located nor did they recognize Lincoln Center. They insisted on a street and number so when you go into the city be sure you know these facts of where you will be as one can never tell when an emergency will take place. The ambulance finally came and the lady left for the hospital instead of opera. Beware when you go out of your usual haunts.
Hope we didn’t get the new snow storm and that you had a nice week.
