Hannon Encourages Breast Cancer Awareness

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year of providing breast cancer information, support and hope to New York women, men and their families.

“When the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program first began in 1980, breast cancer was feared, but not publically discussed,” said Senator Kemp Hannon. “The initiatives of Adelphi’s support program and the work of similar programs shows us the importance of bringing awareness to this disease and encouraging women to take control of their own health and support others,” said Hannon.

With the help of volunteers, legislators and funders, Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program is able provide support for all women including disseminating important information about breast cancer, providing low-cost mammograms, offering professional counseling services and maintaining a help hotline for all women.

“The key to beating breast cancer is early detection,” said Hannon. “All women should take the time to get a mammogram and speak with a physician.”
