The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will offer a morning session of our very poplar Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler program for children ages 4 & 5 who are Residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This program will begin on Tuesday, March 2nd and will run for four weeks. Program time will be 10:45 a.m.

This program will be instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere. A different sport will be offered each week. Please note: your child must be 4 years old by the start of the session in order to participate.

The cost of this program will be $32. To register for this program, please fill out the registration form and submit with payment to the Garden City Recreation Dept. at 108 Rockaway Avenue.

PRESCHOOL ARTS AND CRAFTS

The Recreation Department’s Spring Session of Preschool Arts and Crafts will be the week of March 2nd. This seven week program is open to children ages 3 1/2 to 5 year old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The program will be offered the following days and times:

Tuesdays Noon to 12:45 p.m.

Thursdays 12:15 to 1 p.m.

ADULT DANCE CLASSES

in CLUETT HALL

Are you looking for a fun way to stretch and tone your body? The Recreation Department is offering dance classes to help move those muscles and get back into shape. Our adult ballet class is a fun way to exercise and the classes are geared to remember the “little ballerina” in you, whatever level that might be. Our stretch and tone class offers simple dance movements, stretching and other exercises to music designed to add flexibility to your body.

The schedule of classes is as follows:

Adult Ballet beginning 3/2 Tuesday at 9:15 am

Adult Stretch beginning 2/11 Thursday at 9:15 am

All classes are lead by Felicia Lovaglio, Director of our Dance Conservatory and adjunct professor at Adelphi. Each class is one hour long and will be held in Cluett Hall. The classes will run for 10 weeks at a cost of $ 80. FEBRUARY BREAK WEEK

GYM PROGRAM

During the February Break, the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the Saint Paul’s Fieldhouse from Tuesday, February 16 to Friday, February 19. This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only.

The schedule for these programs will be as follows:

Kindergarten and 1st grade - 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

2nd and 3rd grades - 10:30 a.m. to Noon

4th, 5th, and 6th grades - Noon to 2 p.m.

For grades 7 to 12 - the fieldhouse will be open for supervised open play from 2 to 6 p.m.

MOVIE DAY DURING

FEBRUARY BREAK

The Recreation Department will be showing “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” in Cluett Hall on Thursday, February 18th at 1 p.m.

Based on the popular children’s book, this animated adventure follows a scientist who tries to solve world hunger only to see things go awry as food falls from the sky in abundance.

The movie, rated PG, runs approximately 89 minutes. Admission is free. Popcorn and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. The Recreation staff will supervise.

FAMILY FUN TIME ON SUNDAYS

On Sunday afternoons, the St. Paul’s Field House will be open for “Family Fun” for Village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym will be available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday until March.

This time is designated for family time only. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop off program. We ask the elementary school aged children be accompanied by an adult. For the safety of our users, no lacrosse or baseball will be allowed.

ADULT PASTEL CLASS

The Garden City Recreation Department is offering an adult art class. This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastel from photographs.

The first lesson will include a portrait and landscape demonstration. At that time, a supply list will be provided.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required as they move at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Rueth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a winner of numerous awards. Her portraits hang in many Garden City homes, as well as throughout the United States. A portrait of Elvis Presley permanently hangs in Graceland, and Barbara Walters is among her celebrity commissioned subjects.

This class is open to adult residents who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Friday beginning February 19 at St. Paul(s Cluett Hall. PEEWEE SPORTS SAMPLER

The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will once again offer our very poplar Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler program this winter for children ages 4 & 5 who are Residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This six week program will begin the week of February 8th, has been designed to provide an opportunity to try a wide variety of sports with basic instruction.

It will be held in the St Paul’s Field House according to the following schedule:

Thursdays @ 2:00 p.m. (beginning February 11th)

This program which will run for 55 minutes, and will be an instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere. A different sport will be offered each week. Please note: your child must be 4 years old by the start of the session in order to participate. The cost of this program will be $48. REGISTRATION FOR ADULT YOGA IN CLUETT HALL BEGINS

Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Each class is one hour long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s and will begin the week of January 25. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays at 7:30 p.m. beginning 1/25 15 classes for $75

Wednesdays at10:15 a.m. beginning 1/27 15 classes for $75
