Peaceful School Bus Program Debuts at Stewart School
Participants in the Peaceful School Bus Program
Stewart School is piloting an exciting new program with children from several school buses this year entitled the “Peaceful School Bus Program.” The program is designed to create a safer and more peaceful bus ride and to foster a sense of community and responsibility among students riding the bus. Students participating in the Peaceful School Bus Program will meet four times per year with students from the same school bus. Through group activities, the students will get to know each other and learn how to act responsibly on the bus. In addition, issues concerning bullying and appropriate bus etiquette will be addressed.
The meetings will be facilitated by Principal Linda Norton, school social worker Michele Degati, the students’ bus drivers, and teacher volunteers. Parents will also play a key role in this program by reviewing bus safety rules with the students and encouraging their child/children to adhere to the Peaceful School Bus rules. All students participating in the program will sign a Peaceful School Bus Pledge.
The Peaceful School Bus Program seeks to increase student responsibility and safety awareness amongst all Stewart students who ride the school bus. The program is being piloted with two buses and will be expanded to include all buses based on the success of the pilot program.
