Mrs. Coyne’s 3rd Grade Class Goes To Safety Town
Officer Donna teaches the children the laws of the road.
On January 11, Mrs. Coyne’s 3rd grade class from Stratford School visited Safety Town in Eisenhower Park; a traditional trip shared by Long Island children for decades! Under the guidance of Officer Donna, the children learned how to safely cross intersections as pedestrians, maneuver roadways as bicyclists and properly conduct themselves as motorists in a simulated town with traffic lights and signs. Safety town opened in 1972. Last year this much adored establishment was almost closed due to Nassau County budget cuts. However, letters, phone calls and emails to the Nassau County Park Commissioner’s office from local schools, children and parents saved Safety Town. The children in Mrs. Coyne’s class were assisted by Officers Angela and Joan. Although the temperature was frigid, a great time was experienced by everyone.

We Love Safety Town!!
