Interested In Joining Boy Scouts?
Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and Troop 56 is celebrating its 60th year. The Troop is chartered by the Garden City Community Church (at the corner of Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Blvd.) and meets there Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. Boys in the 5th grade and up (ages 11 through 17) are invited to stop by any night there is a meeting to learn about scouting. There will be an open house on Sunday March 7th.
Scouting is a great way for boys to have fun, learn life and leadership skills, make friends, provide community service, and build confidence. The Troop has regular Sunday night meetings (except on weekends when there is a trip or a holiday) to plan and work on skills. There is an optional trip once a month. Recent trips have included Alpine Scout Camp and hike along the Palisades (January); New York City Hike and tour of the Central Park Zoo (December); Harriman State Park Hike (November); Bike Hike (October); Delaware River Canoe Trip (September); Sea Base, Florida Keys sailing, fishing and snorkeling trip (August); Mission Trip to Kentucky (August); Summer Camp (July); Kayaking in the Great South Bay (June); Bus Trip to Baltimore (May); Beach Jam in Wildwood New Jersey (April); Ski Trip (February/March). Upcoming trips include Frost Valley (March); Spring Camporee (April); Bus Trip to Washington D.C. (May); Golf Outing (June); Summer Camp (July); National Jamboree celebrating 100 years of scouting (July); and the Northern Tier canoe trip on the Minnesota and Canadian Border (August).
Please join us on March 7th at 7:30 or call Troop 56 Scoutmaster Marc Miner at 248-5994 for more information.
