A Word From The Publisher
As the Village and School Boards begin their budget development process, now is the time for interested citizens to become involved. If there is something you think should be included in the budget, or if you are not happy with spending in a particular area, this would be a good time to bring your concerns to the attention of the boards.
Every year, just before the school budget is put up for a vote, we receive letters from residents who are not happy with their projected taxes. Now, no one likes paying taxes, and they do seem to go up a lot every year, but realistically if the school district is to maintain quality programs (which support the high value of Garden City homes), then money has to be spent. Nothing is getting cheaper. The same is true for the municipal services provided by the village.
However, just like running a household, choices have to be made as to the best use of limited funds. This is where involved residents are important. The boards need to get everyone’s perspectives on how to spend the village’s communal money. Help them help you - get involved.
