THE GARDEN CITY
Recreation Department offering an adult art class. This ten-week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastel from photographs. The first lesson will include a portrait and landscape demonstration. At that time, a supply list will be provided. Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required as they move at their own pace and level of expertise.Arleen Rueth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her portraits hang in many Garden City homes, as well as throughout the United States. This class is open to adult residents who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Friday beginning Feb. 19 at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. The cost of this ten-week program will be $105. POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM
ON FEBRUARY 2, 1:30 p.m., police arrested a 28-year-old female for allegedly shoplifting $289 in merchandise at Sears, which included Jordache and Levi labels. The items were put in a baby stroller and the woman had 2 children with her... ALSO THAT DAY, a burglary had occurred at a First Street house and soon thereafter the estranged husband of the woman of that house showed up at police headquarters asking questions of the officers there. He was arrested for having violated an order of protection and for the burglary of the house... BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2 and 3, there were several break-ins of unlocked cars at Pell Terrace, Stewart Ave., and Washington Ave... BETWEEN FEBRUARY 3 and 4, there were occurrences of the same type on Maxwell Rd, and then on February 5 at Kingsbury Road... ALSO ON FEBRUARY 5, PO Sommer and PO Bandl found a rear door pried open at a Washington Avenue house after an alarm sounded there. The homeowner was away and an undetermined amount of property was stolen... THAT SAME DAY, a 20-year-old female student at Adelphi University reported that her boyfriend had choked her and he was arrested for menacing and harassment...Again on February 5, PO Florio found a rear window pried open at Lefferts Road at 6:55 p.m., although no entry was made... ON FEBRUARY 4, a GC HS student reported that her calculator, credit cards, and bank card had been taken from an unlocked gym locker... BETWEEN FEBRUARY 5 and 7, someone kicked in the front door of a Chestnut St. house and took jewelry, coins and watches, a digital videocamera and digital still camera... BETWEEN FEBRUARY 7 and 8, there were more larcenies from cars at Boylston, Willow and Meadow Streets- with thieves stealing 2 GPS units... A PARKING FIELD gate was found broken at 1505 Franklin Ave. between February 5 and 7... DET. MADDEN arrested an 18-year-old GC male for the possession of marijuana at Laurel Street at 1:03 a.m. on February 8... ON FEBRUARY 3, a truck stop was conducted at Clinton Road with 9 trucks inspected and 47 tickets issued...
