Residents Participate In Penguin Plunge

On January 30, Garden City residents Ken, R.J. and Brenna Colucci and Keith, Devin and Logan Becker all braved the 9 degree temperature to take part in the Penguin Plunge in Winsted, CT to support the Special Olympics. The ice on Highland Lake was 8 - 10 inches thick and snow covered the ground, but these courageous people donned their super hero and villain costumes to be a part of Team Super Hero and jumped into the freezing water! The driving force behind this seemingly insane behavior was raising money for the athletes who take part in the Special Olympics. Due to the generous support of the friends of the members of Team Super Hero, they were crowned the highest fundraisers at the event - raising over $14,000! They were freezing for a reason and all who participated said they would be back next year to do it again!
