The building crew from the Cathedral in front of their handiwork that warmed their hearts on a freezing cold day. On Saturday, January 30, a very cold winter morning with temperatures in the teens, twelve members of the Cathedral of the Incarnation helped build a house in Elmont through Habitat for Humanity. They worked outside putting up siding and inside the house installing insulation. This home has been designated for a single mother with two children. It has three bedrooms and two baths with a finished basement. Plans are to complete the house by this coming summer. The participants from the Cathedral worked along with other volunteers and supervisors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Despite the frigid weather, the volunteer left filled with joy at the prospect of having helped someone in need.

George Tietjen, a member of the Cathedral, is a veteran volunteer and supporter for Habitat for Humanity. He helped to arrange this volunteer day. The plan is to have another volunteer day in the spring. For more information about the Cathedral’s participation in Habitat for Humanity’s projects or to join in participating please contact Father Joseph Pae at the Cathedral (fatherjoe@incarnationgc.org) or telephone the church office at 746-2955.
