Buckley Country Day School Headmaster Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel, honored as recipient of a fellowship to the distinguished Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership’s 2010 Heads of Schools program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel, Head of Buckley Country Day School in Roslyn, New York, has been awarded a fellowship to the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership’s 2010 Heads of Schools program at Teachers College, Columbia University. This distinguished award, granted annually to only twenty heads of school from across the country and around the world, provides independent school leaders with an opportunity for focused professional enrichment, renewal, and reflection for two weeks early this year. Led by world-renowned professors, seminars focus on the following topics: moral leadership, global citizenship, applications of technology, and current issues and policies facing independent school educators. The 2010 cohort includes heads from all areas of the United States in addition to participants from Namibia, Panama, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Swaziland, Thailand, and Turkey. According to Pearl Kane, Klingenstein Family Chair Professor, “This experience is often described by alumni as the most meaningful professional development in their careers.”

Dr. Juhel was named Buckley’s twelfth headmaster in the fall of 2001. Having earned a Ph.D. in American history from the Michel de Montaigne University as well as a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Columbia University, this outstanding educator has more than twenty-five years of experience at independent schools such as Trinity School and Phillips Exeter Academy. Before joining the Buckley community, Dr. Juhel was the head of the upper division at St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s in Manhattan. As head of school, he has built upon Buckley’s tradition of excellence in education and initiated new curriculum programs designed to prepare students in a changing world. Under his leadership the school has further integrated new technologies in all aspects of the curriculum. A successful capital campaign is now providing funding for facility enhancements and endowment growth.

The success of Klingenstein alumni has established Teachers College as the premier graduate school for study, research, and leadership development in independent school education. The Center attracts and selects those who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishment or potential for excellence and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for informed and effective practice.

Congratulations to Dr. Juhel

and to Buckley Country Day School!
