MSG Network was on hand to interview players (here interviewing Garden City’s Jared Mitchell) at the Town of Hempstead Breakfast of Champions. “The question was not would anyone defeat Garden City, but would anyone score against the Garden City team,” emphasized Newsday sports reporter Bob Herzod in his comments about the Trojan varsity football team’s fall season at the Town of Hempstead’s Breakfast of Champions held on January 14th at Hempstead Town Hall. Led by Coach of the Year Tom Flatley, the Trojans followed an undefeated regular season with a victory over North Babylon to take the Long Island Championship title.

In addition to winning their conference title, the team was awarded the Rutgers Cup, ranked # 1 by Newsday on Long Island, and voted #1 in the New York State Class A Poll by NYS Sportswriter’s Association. Additionally, lineman Conor Horl was the recipient of the Nassau County Martone Award, a first for Garden City.

The Garden City Trojans team members, head coach Tom Flatley, assistant coach David Ettinger, and Athletic Director Nancy Kalafus joined with town board members and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray to accept two commemorative #1 footballs at the January 14th Breakfast of Champions.
