Four teachers from Locust Primary School were awarded grants monies totaling nearly $2,000 for special projects to benefit Locust students. Four Nassau Tract grants were awarded, as well as one Target Field Trip Grant. This year’s grant recipients are Anne Hayes, Jessica Crofton, Linda Polant and Millie Joyce.
Anne Hayes won two Nassau Tract grants - $484.41 to create “Imagination Station,” a literacy-based dramatic play center for her first grade classroom, and $426.63 for “Terrific Take Home Literacy Tote Bags.” These funds will be used to create tote bags filled with literacy activities for students to use with their families.
Jessica Crofton will receive a Nassau Tract grant of $240.04 for “Magical Magnetic Letters.” She will use the funds to purchase materials for a new word study center in her kindergarten classroom.
Kindergarten teacher Linda Polant will be awarded $266.70 from Nassau Tract for materials to enhance her listening center for a project entitled “Listen Up!”
Millie Joyce won a Target Field Trip Grant for $500 to take her first graders to the Queens Zoo in April to participate in the “Animal Adaptations” program.
“We have embraced grant writing here at Locust and are thrilled to have been selected to receive four grants from Nassau Tract,” commented Principal Jean Ricotta. “I would like to acknowledge the teachers who wrote grants that were not awarded funding. Thank you to Kristine Veltri, Anne Groom and Michael Caparella for their efforts!”
