Helping Children Make Healthy Choices
The Garden City Community Coalition (formerly known as Garden City Community Council on Substance Abuse & Violence Prevention) is proud to sponsor Dr. Stephen Dewey, Neuroscientist, will present a program, “Together, We Can Make A Difference” on Tuesday, February 2, at 7:30pm in the Garden City High School Auditorium.
Parents and students (grades 6-12) are welcome.
The program will be presented in partnership with: Garden City UFSD, Carle Place UFSD and PTSA, Mineola UFSD, Lynbrook UFSD and Rockville Centre Drug-Alcohol Task Force, PTA and RVC Youth Council.
Dr. Dewey is affiliated with the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at N. Shore-LIJ.
He will:
•Explain how alcohol and drug use affects the developing adolescent brain and the adult brain.
•Discuss a range of drugs, beginning with the most addictive from caffeine to heroin.
•Make the information come alive to parents and students through the use of MRI slides.
•Empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to guide their children through the adolescent years.
The community based treatment programs servicing Carle Place, Garden City, Mineola, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre will be present and have materials available for parents and students:
•Mineola Community Treatment Center, Mineola
•Tempo, Woodmere
•Project Outreach, West Hempstead
•Confide Inc., Rockville Centre
