Garden City Retired Men’s Club Calendar Of Events

The Garden City Retired Men’s Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political.

All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, in the state of New York are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested in joining us, please come by. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto at 248-9022.

The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday, and offers two regulation size pool tables, television, cards/table board games as well as outdoor bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Program Committee is planning a very active speaker program. You are invited to join us!

Hot Pizza With A Hot Side Dish Coming Up

We’ll be serving you a hot eggplant side dish with your pizza on Thursday January 28th Don’t miss your first hot pizza party of the new year. Come early, sip a soda or non-alcoholic beer, play a game, or chit chat with friends and enjoy. Still the same price, $6.00 plus $2.00 for lucky bucks.

Are You Ready For a Menu Change??

Our Monday February 1st In-House Party will feature the regular hero sandwich, a choice of cold cuts plus salads and a hot side dish. However, Rudy Kaiser and Gary Metzler have come up with an exciting menu change for our Monday February 15th In-House Party. We will be serving Oriental style, including fried rice, chicken w/broccoli, pepper steak w/onion, mixed Chinese vegetables, crab meat w/cheese and spinach w/cheese. Same In-House price $7.00 plus $2.00 for lucky bucks. You must come and try this fabulous treat!

How to Maintain Balance and Prevent Falls

George Salem is forever looking out for our welfare and best interests. He’s arranged for a qualified speaker to advise us on how we can best maintain balance and prevent falls. Monday February 22nd is the date, 1:00 p.m. is the time, Golf Club Lane Center is the place. More details to follow. This is a ‘do not miss’ subject for all seniors. Ladies are invited.

FLU Season Remains Be Careful - Get Your Flu Shot

Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after a cough or sneeze.

• Use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. Discard tissue after each use.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

• Try to avoid close contact with sick people

• Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. May also include diarrhea and vomiting.

Be extra careful .... The H1N1 virus has caused severe illness and death.

Proper exercise is the best thing you can o for yourself. Felicia still stands ready to tone your muscles and put a little spring in your step. Twice a day, three times a week. Felicia, we can’t thank you enough. Join her any Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 or 10:30 AM. Classes are free and the exercise is great.

Another great way to exercise ... Bowling ... Come bowl with us at Herrill Lanes any Friday at 12:45 p.m. If you care to join us, call Ron Zwicke at 747-6842. You will be happy with the results.
