Garden City Wrestling News Update

Tom Ferro’s Signature Move, The Crossface Cradle
Tom Ferro’s Signature Move, The Crossface Cradle Garden City Varsity had a very good meet at the Wheatley Tournament. The team finished second with 189 points in a competition of 9 teams. This accomplishment is even more special since only half the team competed in Wheatley while the other half competed in Scarsdale. We have to give Coach Zcacher a special thanks, being that he was often in a position that required him to coach two boys’ matches at once. This can be quite a challenge since meets are emotion-filled, loud places with multiple matches taking place at the same time. Listed below are the final team scores of the tournaments:

Port Jefferson 189

Garden City 146

Valley Stream North 145

Uniondale B 123

Wantagh B 95.5

Plainview 85.5

Sewanhaka West 82.5

Wheatley 67

The second component of a tournament is the individual results within each respective bracket. Had this been the criteria for determining this tournament’s results, Garden City would have been a clear number one earning the most Gold medals with a total of five.

Listed below are the five Gold winners:

96 lbs. Thomas Reina 103

Jack Reina 152

Captain Jake Dowling 189

Tom Ferro 285

Brandon Passano

96 lbs. Matt Mazzulo Silver

119 Michael Lofrese Gold

145 Mike Moranus Gold

The boys who work and practice the hardest have the best results. We are very lucky in Garden City to have youth programs running in both the Spring, Winter and Fall. Any boy who would like to excel in wrestling would be well-served by joining the Garden City 3-Style program that runs this Spring. The program accommodates children from second to twelfth grades.
