News From The Children’s Room Kindergarten Storytime

Current kindergarteners are welcome to sign up for our weekly Kindergarten Storytime. Sign up in the Children’s Room for either Tuesdays 3:45-4:30PM from January 26-March 23 (except for February 16 and March 16) or Thursdays 3:45-4:30PM from January 28-March 25 (except February 18). Each week we’ll explore the folklore of a different country through stories and film, and do a craft.

First Grade Storytime

Current first graders can register for our weekly First Grade Storytime, which meets on Mondays from 3:45-4:30PM from January 25-March 22 (except February 15). The storytime for First Grade features the very best in picture books and stories in a variety of formats, and concludes with a fun craft.

Teddy Bear Tissue Box

Shirley Ruby will present this fun program for children ages 21/2-5, along with a caregiver. The program will be held Wednesday, February 17 at either 9:30AM or 11:00AM. Registration is required and begins Saturday, February 6 at 9:00AM on Eventkeeper. Children must bring their own boutique box of tissues to the program. This craft program is for Garden City residents only.

Clay Workshop

Join us for a Clay Workshop with Rona Madri on Thursday, February 18. Children presently in Grades K-2 will meet at 1:00PM and children presently in Grades 3-5 will meet at 3:00PM. Registration is required and begins Saturday, February 6 at 9:00AM on Eventkeeper. This craft program is for Garden City residents only.

Chapter Chat

Chapter Chat is our introductory book discussion for second graders. Current second graders can sign up in the Children’s Room. Registration began on Monday, January 11. Sign up is for both meetings. On Wednesday, February 3, 4:00-4:45PM, Polar Bears Past Bedtime (Magic Treehouse Series) by Mary Pope Osborne will be discussed, and on Wednesday, March 3, 4:00-4:45PM, Roscoe Riley Rules: Never Walk in Shoes that Talk by Katherine Applegate will be the subject of the meeting.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party

The Book Ends is a new program for children presently enrolled in Grades 3-5. We’ll play games, make crafts and do other activities inspired by kids’ favorites, and we’ll talk about great reads. Tell us about one of your favorite books (past or present) and get a prize The first program is our Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party on Saturday, February 6 at 3:00-3:45pm. Registration began Monday, January 11 in the Children’s Room.

Please check the Library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by The Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
