The conference meets are a good tune up for the championship season that will be here faster than the team knows as they lead up to Counties the first week of February. On Friday night a small contingent took the ride out to St. Anthony’s for the meet and Molly Josephs took 1st place in the 1500m walk, while Paulette Mochasi took 2nd place with a personal best time and Kristen Conboy 5th place in the 600 meter run. Also running strong with personal bests were Lauren Reale in the 55 sprint, Jill Yoo in the 300 meters and Danielle Smith in the 1000 meters.

The second conference meet of the week took place on Monday night at Suffolk Community College. More runners went out to this meet and there were more top notch results. Molly once again took first place in the 1500m walk, while Michelle Rotondo took first place in both the high jump and 55m hurdles. Michelle’s hurdles time of 8.8 seconds is a new school record. Also running with good times were Taryn Schmelzinger with a 5th place finish in the 55m hurdles with a personal best time and fourth place in the 55m dash, Victoria Chimento with a second place in the 400m, Dana Famiglietti took second place in the triple jump and Emily Menges finished fourth in the shot put. Also, running personal bests were Dana Famiglietti in the 55m, Catherine Sullivan in the 55 hurdles, Paulette Mochasi in the 400 meters and Danielle Smith in both the 200 and 800 meters.

Both of these youngsters came back later in the day to run impressive personal bests in their 800m runs, Emma being part of the 4x800 relay, with Michelle, Taylor and Jenna DeAngelo that qualified for the Millrose Games later this month at Madison Square Garden. Also running to personal bests in the 400m at the meet were Liz Weber, Tara DeAngelo, Lauren Diller, KellyTierney and Lili Fiorenti - great efforts by all!

As mentioned, the Trojans will be sending their 4x800 relay to the 103rd running of the Millrose Games at MSG on January 29th, but they will also be looking to send several additional girls to the Games when they sent a 4x400 relay team to run on Wednesday night at the Millrose Trials. Also trying for an invitation to be among the 10 best racewalkers is Molly Josephs in the mile event. The invitations will not be sent out for another week. So look forward to reading about the trials and the Stanner Games that are run this Saturday. Good luck girls!
