Joe Capetola in action against Plainedge. See this photo at www.Newsphoto.com Nine games into the season and Garden City’s boys basketball team currently holds a 5-4 overall record and a 2-1 conference record. Three of the team’s victories came over Cold Spring Harbor, Plainedge and Mineola.

Back in December the Trojans played host to the Plainedge Red Devils on the 16th and then the Mineola Mustangs on the 18th. In the 57-48 victory over Plainedge, Matt Montgomery and Matt Schlatter were GC’s high scorers with 10 points each. Also scoring for GC: Griffin Eilbeck (8), James Cauchi (7), Dan Colamusi (6), Devin Dwyer (5), Joe Capetola (4), Mike Snead (3), Kyle Skramko (2) and Frank Cordio (2). Scoring for Plainedge: Will Crapo (17), Brendan McSweeney (11) and Dan McKeffrey (11).

The Mineola Mustangs didn’t fare any better than Plainedge and fell to the Trojans by a score of 63-56 in a non league game. Matt Montgomery hit back-to-back threes with a minute left in the game to give the Trojans the victory. Montgomery was the game’s high scorer with 22 points. Also scoring for GC were: Mike Snead (12 ), Griffin Eilbeck (8 ), James Cauchi (8), Joe Capetola (4), Dan Colamussi (4), Eddie Blatz (3), and Devin Dwyer (2)

See this photo at www.Newsphoto.com Most recently, the Trojans played host to the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks on Tuesday evening January 12th. Montgomery scored six of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead Garden City to a 47-42 victory. He hit a jumper with a minute left to give the Trojans a 42-41 lead. Junior Frank Cordio added a career-high 10 points. Also scoring for GC: Griffin Eilbeck (7), James Cauchi (4), Matt Schlatter (4), and JC Gardyn (3). Brian Samuels led the scoring for the Seahawks with 18 points.
