Winter Storytime and Book Discussion

Registration Underway

Registration for all Winter 2010 storytimes began on Monday, January 11, 2010. For your convenience, registration can be done online at www.gardencitypl.org. Go to the Library website and choose “Children’s Room” from the side menu. There you will find a link to the registration form. Registration can also be done in person in the Children’s Room.

Mother Goose Storytime

This is a thirty minute introduction to storytime for children ages 18 months - 29 months and an adult caregiver, with a focus on parent and child interaction and participation. Please choose one session.

Session I (August 2007 - July 2008):

•Mondays at 10:00AM January 25, February 1, 8, 22, March 1.

•Thursdays at 10:00AM or 11:00AM January 28, February 4, 11, 25, March 4.

Session II (October 2007-September 2008):

•Mondays at 10:00AM March 8, 15, 22, April 12, 19.

•Thursdays at 10:00AM or 11:00AM March 11,18, 25, April 8,15.

You and Your Toddler Storytime

The thirty minute You and Your Toddler program is for children ages 21/2-31/2 and an adult (born July 2006-July 2007). Please choose one session.

•Mondays at either 11:00AM or 7:30PM January 25-March 22, except February 15.

•Tuesdays at either 11:00AM or 1:30PM January 26-March 23, except February 16, March 16.

Little Listeners

Little Listeners is an independent storytime program for children ages 3-5, who have not entered Kindergarten (born December 2004-January 2007). Please choose one session.

•Mondays at 1:30PM January 25- March 22, except February 15.

•Wednesdays at 11:00AM January 27- March 24, except February 17.

•Thursdays at 1:30PM January 28-March 25, except February 18.

Preschool Storytime

The Preschool program is identical to the Little Listeners, but is limited to independent listeners ages 31/2-5 (born December 2004-July 2006). Sign up for one of the following: Wednesdays at either 10:00AM or 1:30PM January 27- March 24, except February 17.

Pajama Storytime

Since it can be difficult for busy children and working parents to attend storytime during the day, the Library offers an evening alternative. Sign up for Pajama Storytime for independent listeners ages 3-6 on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM.

Kindergarten Storytime

There are two sessions of Kindergarten storytime. Each week, children will get to hear great stories from different countries, and related activities. Register your Kindergartener for either Tuesdays or Thursdays at 3:45-4:30PM.

First Grade Storytime

First Grade Storytime features the very best in picture books and stories in a variety of formats, and concludes with a fun craft. Current First Graders can be registered for the program, which meets on Mondays at 3:45.

Chapter Chat

Chapter Chat is our introductory book discussion for second graders. All participants read the same book from the easy reader section. At each meeting, they exchange opinions, play games based upon the book, watch a related, book-based film, and do a craft. Sign up began for current Second Graders in the Children’s Room on Monday, January 11th. Sign up is for both meetings.

•Wednesday, February 3, 4:00-4:45PM: Polar Bears Past Bedtime (Magic Treehouse Series) by Mary Pope Osborne

•Wednesday, March 3, 4:00-4:45PM: Roscoe Riley Rules: Never Walk in Shoes that Talk by Katherine Applegate

Brand New! The Book Ends!

The Book Ends is a new program for children presently enrolled in Grades 3-5. We’ll play games, make crafts and other activities inspired by kids’ favorites, and we’ll talk about great reads. Tell us about one of your favorite books (past or present) and get a prize! Have fun and find out what to read next. Program is forty-five minutes. Registration began on Monday, January 11th in the Children’s Room.

•Saturday, February 6 at 3:00pm: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party. We’ll play games and other activities based upon the misadventures of Greg Heffley, everyone’s favorite wimpy kid! This program is not for wimps!

Please check the Library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
