Varsity Track Runs Into The New Year
Lauren Diller runs a smooth mile in her DMR.
The Varsity girls looked to finish the year the same way as they started it - successfully. And they did just that with several outstanding performances from the group of girls that attended the Marine Corps Holiday Classic on Monday at the Armory and the Emery Christmas City Relays at Lehigh University on Tuesday. Monday’s meet had Michelle Rotondo running in the invitational 800 meter race with some of the area’s top runners. And in the heat with the top twelve runners, Michelle finished fourth with an indoor personal best of 2:17.07 - the 5th best time in the country this early season.
In the distance medley relay it was the foursome of Emma Gallagher, Taryn Schmelzinger, Katie O’Neill and Jen Gerland taking home a medal with a time of 13:03.77. While the team of Liz Weber, Laura Jaeger, Sarah Rubino and Lauren Diller completed the distance medley in solid 13:37.80. And finishing up the evening with another medal were Tara D’Angelo, Taryn Schmelzinger, Michelle Rotondo and Jenna D’Angelo running to a fifth place finish in the sprint medley relay with a current Long Island best time of 4:19.96.
Emma Gallagher running the 1200m of the DMR
Right after the race the girls left the Manhattan Armory and boarded the team bus for a 4 hour ride out to Lehigh University in order to attend the Christmas City Relays on Tuesday. With a late return you’ll have to wait until next week for the positive results of this meet - but seeing these girls run so far this early season, we’re sure there will be some eye-popping results.
HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!
