It's time to send letters to Santa and the Recreation Department will speed up the process! A special "Santa's Mailbox" will be set up in the waiting area of the Recreation Department's Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Avenue beginning December 2nd. Children can drop their letters in the mailbox and Santa will send them a personalized reply. Santa's mailbox will be available through December 19th.
CHRISTMAS CANDY CONTEST
In addition to sending their letters to Santa, kids can take a chance at guessing the number of candy pieces in the jar next to Santa's Mailbox and the child whose guess is closest to the actual number will win the jar, candy and all! As with Santa's mailbox, the candy contest will be available from December 2nd to December 19th.
A VISIT FROM SANTA
Santa will visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue for visits and photos on December 9, 10, 16, and 17 from 2:30-4:15 p.m. The Recreation Department Staff will be available to take and print photos. There is no fee for a photo but a donation of a small gift for Toys for Tots would be appreciated.
HOLIDAY GYM PROGRAM
During the Holiday Recess, the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the St. Paul’s Fieldhouse on December 28, 29, 30. This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only.
The schedule for these programs will be as follows:
Kindergarten and 1st grade - 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
2nd and 3rd grades - 10:30 a.m. to Noon
4th, 5th, and 6th grades - Noon to 2 p.m.
For grades 7 to 12 - the fieldhouse will be open for supervised open play from 2 to 6 p.m.
For College students - the field house will be open for basketball from 6- 7:30 p.m.
HOLIDAY MOVIE
The Recreation Department will be showing “The Muppets Christmas Carol” at Cluett Hall on Tuesday, December 29 at 1 p.m. The movie runs approximately 85 minutes. Admission is free. Popcorn and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. The Recreation staff will supervise.
Adult Tennis Lesson
Interest Form
Adult Tennis Lesson Registration for the Winter has now started. Classes are held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Our ten week, one hour class will cost $199 and will start in January.
Our Recreation Department offers les-sons for adults in all ability levels. In order to create sessions geared to the needs of our residents, we are ask-ing any adult who is a resident in the Inc. Village of Garden City and is in-terested in our tennis lessons to visit our Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue and fill out an interest form. Classes will then be made by grouping people of similar abilities according to the dates they are available.
This form and the registration fee of $199 is due in the office by 12/30/09.
OPEN GYM FOR MIDDLE AND
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
St. Paul's Fieldhouse will be open and supervised on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school for middle and high school students to play basketball and volleyball. These sessions will begin the week of December 9th and run from 3:15 to 5:45 pm. This time is for students to play with their friends in a supervised setting. No organized practices will be allowed at this time.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades 3-5.This free program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program will run from 3:30 to 5:45 pm in St. Paul's Field House beginning December 7th according to the following schedule:
Boys in grades 3-5 Mondays from 3:30 - 5:45 pm
Girls in grades 3-5 Fridays from 3:30 - 5:45 pm
Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the field house.
Note- Once the children are in our facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child and please be prompt. For further information, please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
Garden City Recreation's Gym Program For Grades K to 2

INTERVIEW DATES FOR
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT AT THE GARDEN CITY POOL
The Garden City Pool is pleased to announce the dates for Pool Employment Interviews for the 2010 season. These interviews are open to people who are currently High School Seniors and older. All potential Pool Staff whether new or previously employed by the pool, must make an appointment for an interview. The interview dates are as follows:
Saturday, January 9, 2010 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday, January 11, 2010 - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Any one that is interested in an interview is encouraged to call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to schedule their appointment. Applications, which must be brought to the interview, are available in the Recreation Office.
SATURDAY MEN'S BASKETBALL
FOR RESIDENTS
The Garden City Recreation Department is conducting an "open play" basketball session for men who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City ages 18 and older on Saturday mornings in the Middle School South gym. This free program will begin on Saturday December 5th and run until the February break. Proof of residency will be required.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT’S FLOOR HOCKEY PROGRAM
The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will once again offer a Floor Hockey Program this winter at Field House at St. Pauls. The program will be open to Village residents between the ages of 5-13 on select Fridays according to the following schedule:
Floor Hockey will run on the following Fridays only:
December 4th, 11th, 18th
January 8th, 22nd
February 5th
Ages (5 & 6) 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Ages (7 & 8) 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Ages (9 & 10) 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Ages (11-13) 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
The cost of this program will be $20. In order to play in this program, all participants must wear the following equipment at all times: hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, sneakers, and a hockey stick. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.
CHILDREN’S INDOOR INSTRUCTIONAL TENNIS PROGRAM
The Recreation Department’s Winter Session of Children’s Tennis for ages 4-18 is quickly filling. These classes begin the week of January 4 and run through April. Please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue to register for any of our classes.

These programs are open to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City who have graduated high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly “pick up.”
Any resident wishing to participate must show their license each week in addition to signing in. A non resident guest may play but must be accompanied by a resident to enter.
